Motley Crue Fatal Private Jet Crash

It seems lately we’ve been writing a lot about private jet crashes. Once again, another crash involving a Part 91 Learjet 35A. This time it was rock band Motley Crue fatal private jet crash.

The aircraft, tail N81VN, a 1989 Lear 35A is owned by Chromed in Hollywood, Inc., a business owned by band lead singer, Vince Neil. He was not on board the aircraft at the time.

The crash occurred after landing at Scottsdale Airport on February 10th. Upon landing it appeared the front landing gear failed / collapsed causing the aircraft to veer off and hit a parked Gulfstream 200, owned by Jet Pros.

One of the pilots, 78-year-old Joie Vitosky, was killed. Several passengers were severely injured including Vince Neil’s girlfriend, Rain Andreani, also known as Rain Hannah, who suffered several broken bones.

In a recent article, our friends at the Aircraft Guys talked about the maintenance differences between Part 135 and Part 91 aircraft.

This crash again calls into question whether the safety standard standards and maintenance requirements for Part 91 aircraft are strict enough.

It’s clear after the two medevac fatal crashes within 15 months that the Mexican standards may be in serious question. That raises the additional question of should the FAA continue to allow these foreign private jets to land and take off at major airports in heavily populated areas ?

Private aviation has become extremely popular since the pandemic, when commercial air travel was grounded. This increased demand puts more stress on the availability of aircraft. The other question, which has been asked for a long time, is, when is an aircraft too old to fly ?

The NBAA Regional Show is coming up next week at the Orlando Executive Airport. We hope to see everyone there.

Hopefully our next story is on a more positive note.
